On A Bay That Belonged To None of Us
PROJECT TYPE
Anthology, Layout, Print, Photography
A collaborative book collectively written and designed by the University of Houston's Graphic Design class. This book brings together 21 short creative narratives from 21 designers of diverse backgrounds and cultures, each offering unique perspectives and experiences from their senior trip to Rockport, Texas. Every page features high-contrast black-and-white images that symbolize each designer's personal experience in Rockport.
design process
The challenge was designing a unified and consistent book while presenting 21 distinct stories. Each student used their own trip photos to visually tell their story, and I merged and cropped my images to create collage-like pages with a tactile, layered feel. I incorporated textures from natural surfaces, like shoreline sand and seashells, to enhance the sensory experience. Working within a shared grid and typographic system, we balanced visual consistency across the book while allowing each story to reflect its designer’s unique style and perspective.
